Empowering Journeys Towards Healing

At Pathways to Services Development, we will cultivate a therapeutic community rooted in lived experience and peer support. Our holistic approach embraces mental, emotional, and physical well-being, providing a safe, inclusive space where individuals can heal, grow, and reclaim their lives. Through personalized guidance, shared experiences, and a supportive network, we empower each person on their unique path to recovery and long-term stability.

Empowering Change Through Lived Experience and Certified Expertise

At Pathways to Services Development, we believe that real transformation happens when lived experience meets professional expertise. Our founder and CEO, James Gonzales, is not only someone who has walked the path of recovery and resilience but is also a Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist through CALMHSA and a Registered Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDRC).

Why This Matters

James’s journey—from overcoming addiction, incarceration, and systemic barriers to becoming a certified peer support leader and counselor—is at the heart of Pathways' mission. His experience fuels our commitment to trauma-informed care, mentorship, and sustainable recovery solutions for individuals and families in need.

Through his official credentials, James ensures that Pathways provides professional, ethical, and effective support services that meet the highest standards of care in mental health, addiction recovery, and peer support advocacy. His certification can be verified through the links below:

Meet Our Founder & CEO: James Gonzales

James Gonzales, the Founder and CEO of Pathways to Services Development, is a living testament to the power of resilience, transformation, and the impact of lived experience. His journey—from foster care, addiction, and incarceration to leadership, service, and advocacy—fuels the mission of Pathways.

Born into instability, James was raised in the foster care system and spent much of his youth navigating a world that often felt detached from his reality. By the time he reached adulthood, he had endured the streets, addiction, and over a decade in prison, carrying the weight of past traumas and the belief that his life would never change. Despite believing in God, he struggled to tap into faith, feeling lost in a cycle of survival.

Everything shifted when he became a client at the Tri-Cities FUBU program in Newark, California. There, he was introduced to a new way of thinking—one that addressed the core beliefs and unresolved traumas that had shaped his life. With time, mentorship, and self-discovery, he transformed his pain into purpose.

Determined to give back, James became a Medi-Cal Certified Peer Support Specialist, working with individuals facing homelessness, mental health struggles, and addiction. He went into the streets, encampments, and underserved communities, offering real support to those who, like him, felt unseen. But through this work, he witnessed the system’s failures firsthandendless referrals, bureaucratic barriers, and programs that fell short of delivering true change.

That realization led him to create Pathways to Services Development—a nonprofit committed to bridging the gaps in traditional services. Pathways will provide trauma-informed, peer-driven support, focusing on emotional resilience, life skills, and recovery strategies. More than just temporary solutions, Pathways fosters lasting transformation by meeting individuals where they are and walking alongside them on their journey to stability.

James' story is not just one of personal redemption; it is a call to action. He understands that housing alone is not enough —people need guidance, mentorship, and belief in their potential. Through Pathways, he is building a community where dignity and empowerment come first, ensuring that no one has to navigate life’s challenges alone.

Today, James stands on the other side of the desk, offering the understanding, compassion, and solutions he once longed for. His mission is clear: to change lives, one pathway at a time.

Join us in this movement. Whether through donations, partnerships, or advocacy, your support helps us continue this life-changing work. Together, we can create a future where no one is left behind.
